General Information:

Weather:
Tibet is cold in winter and cool in summer and generally dry. Sunlight is extreme intense. The most pleasant months for Mt. Kailash trip are from May to September. However, from May and June there is a wind factor and dust storm to consider, so a warm windbreaker and stout comfortable shoes are highly recommended.

Health:
This is one of the toughest high altitude road journeys on earth. You Must be physically fit - no two ways about that. Generally patients with asthma & heart problems have a problem acclimatizing to high altitudes. In your interests it is essential you should be examined by your doctor to know about your health condition and your ability to cope up with the rigors of high altitude travel for days in 'no road' conditions, extreme cold, dust, trekking to an altitude of 19500ft during the Parikrama, etc.

Altitude Sickness:
As you are traveling over high terrain, you are likely to experience symptoms and discomfort of altitude sickness (headache, loss of appetite, nausea, exhaustion, sleeplessness, breathlessness etc.) until your body adjusts to the elevation. This can take a couple of days or more depending on an individual. For this reason alone, we have made it mandatory to stay 2 nights at Nyelam (12000ft) [for overland trip] before moving on to the higher altitudes. Drink plenty of water, be calm, and do not exercise. Do not drink alcohol or smoke prior to and during the tour. We also carry diamox tablets [for acclimatization] that will be given after night meal. Drink approx. 3 litres of water per day.

Currency:
RENMINBI, the people's money used by millions of Chinese everyday, circulates in notes of 1,2,5,10 and 50, 100 Yuan, 1,2 and 5 jiao; there are also coins for 1,2 and 5 fen. With the Chinese currency Renminbi, one Yuan is divided into 10 jiao, into 10 fen (US$ 1= 8 Yuan). All hard currencies in any form (Cash /Travellers Checks) can be exchange in Kathmandu . 1 Yuan is equivalent of Indian Rs. 6/- [keeps changing].

Custom:
There is no prohibition on still and video cameras, tape recorders as long as they're registered with a custom official; printed matters considered unsuitable by the Chinese government are prohibited. Customs regulations forbid the export of art objects created prior to 1959 or souvenirs in amounts deemed to be excessive. All baggage must be cleared through customs. Tourists may bring in dutiable goods such as tobacco and liquors (within the allowed quantity) duty free. Narcotics, arms and ammunition are strictly prohibited.

Transport & Roads:
Roads in Tibet are, for the most part, unpaved. However they are improving day by day. Overland travel is by Jeep, Land Rover/Land Cruiser in Tibet section and in Nepal will be by private bus. A truck is provided to carry all the gears, food supply and camping stuff. Luggage must be kept to a minimum in jeep, as space inside vehicles can be tight. (Clients should be able to carry their own daypack in case of landslide, etc.)

During Parikarma, for food and camping equipments yak will be provided however extra to be paid for the personal use of yak pony or porter right at the spot as there is no advance booking system for the same.

Once booked pony or porter cannot be cancelled even not using it there will be no refund.

Clothing Accessories
Winter wear: Gore-Tex material, though expensive, is highly recommended. Down jacket, raincoat or windbreakers, thermal under wears, Jackets, warm trousers & woolen shirts (cotton will also do), warm sweaters, woolen gloves, sun hat, comfortable shoes, Trekking shoe, woolen balaclava ('monkey cap') & scarf/dust mask to protect your eyes & nose from dust. Bring toilet items, cosmetic etc that you will need from home as these are difficult if not possible to obtain on the way. A small first aid kit is also a good idea.

Food & Drink
While trekking/touring, all main meals, tea, coffee, and drinking water are included. All the food are prepared by our trained cook and served, however in some occasion specially while trekking, packed lunch are provided to reach the next camp on time. Boiled water/mineral water will be provided at every camp to fill your drinking water bottle.

Hotels and guesthouses on the way to Kailash Journey are very basic there is no double or single room it's on dormitory basis some time in one room 5/6 persons has to share and management of hotels is often poor.
